Felim McGrath is Senior Trends Manager at GlobalWebIndex, an audience profiling company that runs the world’s largest ongoing study on the digital consumer in order to quantify the perceptions and behaviors of every connected consumer in the world.

Felim oversees the GWI’s Trends team, who produce the company’s reports and infographics, as well as their Chart of the Day and GWITrends webinar series. He is a contributor to publications such as The Drum, Campaign Magazine, Bloomberg, The Independent and Admap Magazine.

Before beginning his career in digital consumer insights, he gained a Ph.D in the Social Sciences from Trinity College, Dublin and studied at the University of Cambridge.

 

Publishing in Context: How mobile, social, and online media are eating reading time

How is the internet and online media consuming the daily lives of Europe’s book readers? Utilising GlobalWebIndex’s known-truth data on internet users, this session will explore two key groups of readers – the ‘traditional’ cohort of older, affluent females and the important ‘new’ readers from the Millennial cohort.

Focusing on the digital consumers of Europe, with some key comparisons to trends in other world regions, this session will examine how much time readers spent on online media, what devices they own and how that impacts their media consumption, and the central importance of smartphones to their digital lives. We’ll also look at the evolution of social media beyond a simple communications platform to a content ecosystem encompassing news, video, music, and commerce.
